Denzo Washington has hinted at stepping into the superhero arena with a role in Black Panther 3, marking an important chapter in his career as he contemplates retirement.
The 69-year-old actor, known for his award-winning performances, revealed that he plans to work with director Ryan Coogler before calling time on his glory days in Hollywood.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Washington covered a slew of upcoming projects and reflected on where his work is headed.
“At this point in my career, I’m only interested in working with the best people. I don’t know how many more movies I’ll make, probably not that many. I want to do something I haven’t done before.
He suggested a future collaboration on Black Panther 3, adding, “Ryan Coogler is writing a role for me in the next Black Panther.”
The original Black Panther movie, released in 2018, became a cultural and box office phenomenon, starring Chadwick Boseman as the Marvel superhero.
However, Boseman’s untimely death from cancer at the age of 43 just two years after the film premiered, leaving the series in a state of emotional uncertainty.
In 2022, Marvel and Coogler released a sequel, Black Panther: Waganda Forever , which was made in part to honor Boseman.
Shuri, starring Letitia Wright, took over, divisive critics, and the film grossed nearly $500 million less than its predecessor.
Washington’s acting career isn’t slowing down just yet. In early 2024, the veteran performer will return to the Broadway stage in Othello alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays Iago in the highly anticipated production.
“I played Othello when I was 22, and now I’m going to play it when I’m 70,” Washington said.
The actor also revealed more upcoming roles, including a collaboration with director Steve McQueen.
