Da Brat and Judy Dupart just had some real talk about love and relationships. The hip-hop power couple sat down with 1075 WGCI to discuss their new book, “The Road to Love.”
The legendary rapper admitted that she wasn’t initially sold on the idea for the book. “I didn’t agree with it at first,” Da Brat told WGCI. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, no, I don’t want to do this.'” But Judy convinced her to share more with fans.
The writing process was therapeutic for both women. They opened up old wounds that needed healing. “We like to dig deep and in this case we hold nothing back,” Da Brat explains of their honest approach.
Judy Dupart wants big bosses to understand her full earning potential. “If it doesn’t compromise your morals, you know, take your time, why not?” Judy said in the interview.
Their love story began in 2017 at a studio in Atlanta. Judy met Da Brat after a business event. The entrepreneur came alone, surprising the rapper.
“Son, she came to the studio alone,” the boss recalled. When Judy arrived, her hair, clothing, jewelry, and nails were all stunning. She even carries protection with her.
The moment that changes everything comes when Judy makes her intentions clear. “So she said, ‘I’m interested in you,'” Dabrat recalled. This confession completely devastated the usually confident rapper.
“I’ve never encountered anything like this before,” Dabrat admitted. “It messed me up. It messed me up really bad. Knocked me off my square. Lost all my swag.”
The body reacts violently. Da Brat tries to drink Hennessy but spills the drink on her shirt. She was distraught and sick. She even accidentally burned JD’s sofa while smoking.
“I lost all my swag and I just felt like, you know, from now on, I want to explore and see what we can become,” Dabrat explained of that pivotal moment.
Judy is ready to fully follow the big guy’s lead. “If she was in the closet, I would go in with her,” Judy said of respecting Da Brat’s need for privacy. “You know, I let her dictate the pace of our relationship.”
The couple discussed their fertility journey and the challenges they faced. When they attempted in vitro fertilization, genetic testing significantly narrowed their donor choices.
“Once we put my seven things in, we didn’t have any black people,” Judy explained of the limited options.
Their donor choices have faced serious backlash online.
“Our children have received death threats,” Judy revealed of the online harassment they suffered. The couple had to stop reading the comments entirely.
“The Way Love Goes,” which hits stores on February 3, includes elements of memoir and relationship coaching for the married couple.
