One promoter considered canceling TLC’s upcoming tour with Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue, but that’s not all the talk on the street.
The tea is already piping hot and we won’t turn the temperature down. Did I just say the tea is hot? Sorry about that. Come in!
By now you’ve heard it — TLC, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue are moving forward with their highly anticipated “It’s Iconic” tour this summer, and the ladies are rocking the boat. Just as they should. These are all legends. These are icons. Chili peppers may be MAGA.
Federal Election Commission records don’t lie, they show us Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas made multiple donations to Trump-affiliated fundraising pipelines during the 2024 election cycle, totaling nearly $1,000 (not a lot of bread). Later, the Internet reposted a right-wing conspiracy theory post about former first lady Michelle Obama on Chilli’s social media. The post was quietly deleted, but the internet never forgets.
Today, I’m trying to tackle it all in a more relaxed way. I recently saw a picture of T-Boz and Chilli and they looked really sad. This actually gave me pause for a second. I didn’t expect to feel this way. Look at this photo:

Now let me be clear. Donald Trump remains one of the most polarizing political figures in modern and ancient American history. Let me get this out of the way – all the history. Anyone who openly participates in his movement will face pursuit. This is reality. At the same time, I do think that sometimes public reactions can become permanent?
For example, Chrisette Michele still faces backlash years after performing at Trump’s 2017 inauguration. From that moment, her career never recovered. So when I see TLC’s recent photos, I can’t help but wonder how much the current controversy affects them personally. Before I go on to make my case, let me address the rumors.
Sources say that due to the controversy, tour promoters briefly explored the possibility of replacing TLC entirely. As far as I know, the idea was quickly shot down.
If true, this sounds like a classic business versus loyalty situation.
From an organizer’s perspective, it’s all about ticket sales, branding partnerships and huge financial risks. It feels like resistance is coming from all sides, and he/she may be worried. From an artist’s perspective, it’s about unity and working together to protect their heritage. TLC has been through too much in its history, including losing its left eye in 2002, to suddenly split over politics. Correct? I have no idea. Tell me what you think in the comments.
It would be too bad if they pushed Chili aside during a difficult moment. This could trigger greater resistance to loyalty.
So for now, the show goes on.
Will people who have bought tickets show up and behave? Will there be a portion of the crowd prepared to boo Chilli at her own concert? Are the energies in these areas celebratory or conflictual? All of this is on the table.
And then there’s the constant cycle of talk – double standards. Black people who courted Trump, performed at his events or appeared close to power were largely given a pass or faced far less sustained outrage. Mathematics is not the same as mathematics, people have noticed. But there are always nuances.
What’s different from Chilli is the element of surprise, which is the part that makes many fans tingle. TLC has built its entire legacy on empowering black women. Fall. No scrub. Not pretty. These songs are national anthems. The betrayal felt was not just political, it was deeply personal. That’s not the same as a rapper who suddenly shows his full hand from day one. This is a blind spot. You can’t prepare for betrayal.
What will happen next is anyone’s guess. If these concerts go well, social media will be in for a treat. If Chilli steps onto that stage and admits to his transgressions, it could be its own kind of powerful moment.
Either way, we’ll see.
stay tuned.
