It’s the Hunger Games at McDonald’s drive-thru, where customers’ orders are at risk from burger bandits. The customer recorded the entire incident. Are the employees on her side?
We all love to drive there. It saves you the hassle of going in and you can wait for your food in the comfort of your car. Drive-thrus became popular in the 1950s, and California led the way in innovation. While they have evolved a lot, one thing that has remained the same is that they are centered around convenience.
However, the drive-thru is less convenient if your food is stolen. In this video, which has 919,500 views and 51,000 likes, Cyn Avalos (@cyn_avalos) explains what almost happened to their food.
McDonald’s burger in real life
“Well, it’s a crazy job,” Avalos says at the beginning of the film. “This guy got in front of me in the drive-thru…and he pulled up to the window and tried to get me food.”
The video shows a car without a license plate parked in front of the drive-thru window of Avalos. The car pulled away from the pick up window and there was no food.
One commenter asked a good question: “How do you know he wanted to get you food? Maybe he asked for something they forgot in the order.”
Avalos responded: “Because the cashier said through the microphone to the person at the other window, ‘Don’t give him anything he didn’t pay for. He was trying to take the order that he just paid for.'” Fortunately for Avalos, the McDonald’s drive-thru employee was alert and didn’t let the robber take her food.
Viewers weigh in on McDonald’s attempted theft incident
It looks like Avalos isn’t the only one caught up in this near-food tragedy. There are also a lot of people having their food stolen from drive-thru restaurants.
“I was out with a guy one time and he asked me if I wanted to go to McDonald’s. We got there and that’s what he did. Drive away with a big bag of food that other people paid for, hoping I’d be impressed or something. I was so embarrassed that I didn’t eat anything and never hung out with him again,” one comment noted.
“This happened to me. The cashier noticed the problem at the checkout window instead of the pickup window. They questioned me for about 5 minutes and I told them to run back to the camera to check why the cashier wasn’t charging them and then let them proceed with picking up my order,” said another.
“At Starbucks, the person in front of me didn’t park all the way in front of me, and when I pulled up and gave my name (cell phone order), I got close, and then I got to the window and they said 21.96 or something! I was like, oh no, I had a cell phone order. Who is she? I’m like Paige. She’s like the name in front of you is that lady, except that her name is that lady? Paige, and took your order…I showed them my order in the app.
There were also numerous news articles detailing bizarre drive-by robberies. For example, in July 2024, a Massachusetts man stole food from a Burger King drive-thru. He then broke into someone’s backyard and made lewd gestures while exposing himself. Stealing food from drive-thru restaurants is sometimes a joke, like these guys who dare to do it.
