Big Meech, the founder of notorious street group and record label Black Mafia Family (BMF), has been released from prison after spending two decades in prison.
On Wednesday (October 16), a report from TMZ confirmed that Big Mickey has been released and transferred to a halfway house in Florida, where he will serve out the remainder of his sentence and is expected to be released in 2025.
Big Mickey, whose real name is Demetrius Flenory, was transferred from FCI Coleman Low to community confinement overseen by the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ Miami Office of Residential Reentry Management . Former BMF mastermind and Buried Alive Project co-founder Brittany K. Barnett issued a statement confirming reports that Flenori has been released from prison under various conditions. While Flenori’s legal counsel didn’t elaborate on the specifics of Mickey’s release, she did give us a look into the struggles the Detroit native faces during his lengthy prison sentence.
“I am absolutely delighted that Demetrius Flenory has finally been released after nearly 20 years in prison,” Barnett wrote in a statement. “Twenty years is an incredibly long time to witness. The strength of hope and resilience is inspiring. He has used his time in prison to focus on personal growth and transformation, and now he has the opportunity to start a new chapter.
Barnett continued in her statement, stressing the importance of advocating for inmates who may still not have the opportunity for conditional release like Flenory’s.
“He is out, but millions are still trapped inside – there is still much work to be done,” the statement read. “We need to push for real change and build a world that recognizes the dignity and redemptive potential of every human being. justice system. Our commitment to challenging the injustices that persist in the criminal legal system remains unwavering. Nothing is more urgent than freedom.

News of Flenori’s release comes after a judge earlier this year ruled to shorten his sentence by nearly three years. After his arrest in 2005, he was convicted of drug trafficking and money laundering and sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2008. In April 2020, he and his brother Terry “Southwest T” Flenory sought compassionate release due to COVID-19 risks. While his brother was released to home confinement, Big Mickey’s pleas were denied four times by judges and the appeals court.
From the late 1990s to 2007, Flenori reportedly amassed more than $270 million in drug proceeds. Starring, the show is scheduled to premiere its fourth season in early 2025.
