Big Sean has responded to claims that he dissed Lil Yachty on his new album Better Me Than You.
On the Pressure Edition bonus track “Wire Me,” Sean appears to throw shade at the Atlanta rapper by spitting: “I mean, I might even have to throw them a boat — pfft /I’ve seen n-ggas get swamped because they can’t change the flow/Just give them a year or two and they’ll be exposed.
However, in an interview with Complex , Sean set the record straight, denying that the lyrics were directed at Yachti, who actually appears on the album.
“I’m not talking about [Lil Yachty],” he clarified. “Yachty is also on the album. He jammed with me on ‘Yes’. No, I’m not attacking Yachty. It’s like a pun. [If I was referencing him] That would be a completely different sentence.
The Detroit native added that he had some leftover material from his recording sessions with Yachty: “He was in the studio with me when I was making the album. He actually had a poem [‘Yes’] also. I might throw that in there later.
Big Sean released his sixth album Better Me Than You on Friday (August 30), featuring Gunna, Kodak Black, Cash Cobain, Bryson Tiller, Larry June, Teyana Taylor, Charlie Wilson and more.
The star-studded supporting cast also includes Hollywood superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who made a cameo in “Breaking the Cycle” and congratulated Sean on becoming a father in the form of an answering machine message.
He said to Sean, “Yo, what’s up my brother? Great to hear from you. So, a couple things. Most importantly, this sounds amazing. Your baby boy is nine months old , is thriving. I love hearing this.
“I’m sure you started out as an inspired artist, like right out of the gate, but I’m sure holding your baby boy will give you a whole new perspective. There’s a new evolution of what inspiration means, so I’m sure Your motivation and inspiration will reach their peak with your baby boy.
Johnson later joked, “The cool thing is, your nine-month-old baby boy is almost older than Kevin Hart, so that’s really cool. Well, my brother, I love you, man. Really. So happy for you man. Can’t wait to meet your baby boy.
