Unfortunately, the controversial Olympia breakup Rachael “Raygun” Gunn’s family will have to re-examine the public review of one of the relatives after arresting his brother.
Brandon Gunn was charged in Australia for allegedly handling crypto-related crimes with more than $100,000. Gunn, director of Mormarkets Pty Ltd, is accused of processing two bank checks containing funds from three investors who believe they are converting money into cryptocurrency. The deposits totaled $181,000 and are part of a fraudulent investment plan, according to the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC).
“Mr. Gunn allegedly processed two bank checks that contained the proceeds from four investment amounts, and a total of three victim investors made $181,000, and they deposited the funds into cryptocurrency,” Asic said.
Authorities further claimed that Gunn repeatedly tried to open a new bank account despite alleged fraudulent activities, but the warnings and closures were made by financial institutions.
“Gunn (allegedly) represents Moore Markets PTY Ltd, attempting to continue to open a series of bank accounts to receive and transfer deposits, despite concerns about scams and being informed of these concerns, but deposits are still being received and transferred due to repeated closures of bank accounts.”
Gunn appeared in Downing Center District Court on Tuesday and faced three years in prison, a fine of $37,800, or both.
ASIC Chairman Joe Longo highlighted the agency’s commitment to combating financial scams.
“ASIC continues to prioritize scam prevention and detection activities to protect consumers,” Lango said. “We will continue to work with international law enforcement organizations and conduct investigations and action where misconduct is seen.”
Raygu is allegedly not involved in his brother’s case, but the scandal has raised renewed attention to the controversy over his career.
Raygun made his Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her performance has been widely criticized, sparking debates on her qualifications and legitimacy. Later, she appeared on the Jimmy and the Nutt Show and the Project, where she clarified that she was rid of competitive destruction but did not completely withdraw from the art form.
“Raygun is not retired…I’m talking about competition, yes, I really don’t see myself playing anymore,” Raygun said. “And then, like global news, Raygun retired and it just got out of control a little bit.”
Despite facing widespread backlash, including conspiracy theories that questioned her choice, Regon defended her qualifications and status for years as Australia’s highest-ranked B-girl.
Throughout the controversy, her brother publicly supported her.
On August 10, 2024, he posted on X: “Can’t make my amazing sister #RayGun aka Rachael Gunn proud of him who has done an incredible job in the brand new Olympic sport representing this great country. You will always be my winner.”
Brandon Gunn will return to court on April 29 as ASIC continues to investigate crypto fraud cases.
