Angel Reese was choked to the ground by Alyssa Thomas as the Connecticut Sun beat the Chicago Sky 86-82 on Saturday night. Thomas was called a flagrant foul by the referee for hitting the star rookie, a brutal foul that resulted in her ejection. In the third quarter, the two were fighting for a rebound in the low post, and Thomas wrapped his arms around Reese’s neck and threw her to the ground. She exited the game with nine points, six assists and six rebounds. Reese, the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, had 13 points and 5 rebounds.
After the game, she spoke about the incident but seemed unfazed by the harsh move. “It’s not just that I’m a rookie, I’m a player,” Reese said at the postgame press conference. “I’m a basketball player and they don’t care if I’m a rookie. I want them to come to me every day.”
