A$AP Rocky is apparently waiting in the wings for the chance to testify in the upcoming gun assault trial related to the 2021 shooting incident involving A$AP Relli.
On Wednesday (January 15), Rocky’s lawyer Joe Tacopina appeared for an interview outside the courthouse. He talked with Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon about the upcoming January 21 The case started.
“Nancy, I know you know I didn’t and I never would have made that decision before trial, right, because it was malfeasance,” Tacopina said. “That being said, he [A$AP Rocky] Eager to tell his story and grateful for the opportunity to do so.
A$AP Rocky’s shooting trial is expected to begin on Tuesday. His attorney, Joe Tacopina, said Rocky was “eager” to testify but had not yet decided whether to testify.

Tacopina continued, praising Rocky’s humanity and character in the process. “He’s very articulate, he’s smart, he’s a good guy and that will show if he testifies,” he said before concluding, “but no decision has been made yet. It depends on how the case goes.
The statement from Loki’s legal counsel came after months of delays after the trial, originally scheduled to begin last October, was pushed back to January 2025. (Rakim Mayers), faces trial for assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Prosecutors charged him with the 2021 shooting death of his former friend A$AP Relli. During the confrontation, Reilly testified, Rocky allegedly said, “I’m going to kill you right now,” before shooting and grazing Reilly’s hand. He claimed Rocky fired two or three more shots before running away. Tacopina said in a statement after a preliminary hearing in October 2024 that he believed Rocky would be free from the case.
“I know with confidence that he will be vindicated,” Tacopina said. “It’s a burden on him and his family … but he’s a great guy. He really is. He’s handling it as well as anyone can handle it. He’s ready. He’s ready to face this, and we’re ready to face this, and when it’s all said and done, he’ll be fine.
