A$AP Rocky left a freeman last week after beating a felony shooting charge, but his legal troubles are not over yet.
His former friend and so-called victim A$AP Relli are litigating forward, which can still hold the rapper accountable.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge canceled Relli’s attack on Rocky and a temporary possession of the battery lawsuit, setting a trial date on January 12, 2026.
Relli initially filed a civil case in 2022, accusing Rocky of born Rakim Mayers and fired a gun on him during a 2021 dispute in Hollywood. Despite Rocky’s acquittal, Relli’s attorney Melisa Mikhail argues that the legal battle is far from over.
Mikhail actually emphasized at the hearing that the burden of proof of civil courts is lower than in criminal cases, thus making the outcome possible.
“We intend to continue litigating this case,” Mikhail said. “The standards in criminal cases are far higher than the standards of evidence in civil matters. We still believe that our claims have advantages and we intend to fully litigate.”
A$AP Rocky’s attorney James Sargent retorted that Relli no longer has legal legs, pointing to the rapper’s recent acquittal.
“Sir. Efron testified on the facts and circumstances in a criminal case,” Sargent said. “The acquittal of the jury shows how they evaluate this proof of evidence.”
The lawsuit is an extension of long-term tensions between two former friends who were once part of the A$AP Mob Collective.
Relli claims in both criminal and civil files that Rocky ambushed him over the dispute and allegedly fired his gun in his direction. Rocky was arrested in April 2022 and charged with two felony counts, but a jury ultimately found him innocent.
The next hearing is scheduled to be held on May 28, when both parties will continue to establish cases before the 2026 trial deadline.
