Nicki Minaj’s claim that her recent arrest was racially motivated has been refuted by Dutch police.
NOS reports that police released a statement on Friday (May 30) claiming that the “Starships” rapper’s arrest was routine and would have been carried out regardless of her fame or race.
A representative of the Amsterdam police told the media: “It would be very annoying if she had such an experience.” “We arrested her when we found dozens of joints in her luggage. The woman was Arrested and released four hours after negotiating with the prosecutor and paying a fine I thought it was annoying that she drew that card.
A spokesman for the Dutch police also told the BBC: “We are just doing our job and it is protocol to search bags and arrest people when we find drugs. The arrest took place at approximately 5:30 pm and the release was at 9:30 pm.”
Nicki Minaj was detained in the Dutch capital on May 25 on suspicion of “possession of soft drugs” while traveling to Manchester for her Pink Friday 2 tour.
She live-streamed the arrest on social media, showing a member of the Royal Dutch Caravan telling her she was being arrested “for carrying drugs”.
Speaking to fans on live-streaming platform Stationhead, the Young Money rapper slammed the “disgusting” treatment she experienced during her arrest and suggested race played a role in the incident.
“Being unable to travel to Manchester, I don’t know the last time I felt so down,” she said, referring to a show in the British city she had canceled due to her arrest.
“Not only that, but knowing that someone intentionally did something to you just because you’re a confident member of another race. […] There was one woman there—the rest were men—and I could tell she had a heart. This treatment is disgusting and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
When someone else on the livestream asked if Dutch officials were treating her like a “human being,” she responded: “No. I was still in the building when they put out the press release that I was being released. They were probably doing damage control.” ,I have no idea.
