Daz Dillinger and Kurupt (collectively known as Tha Dogg Pound) return on Friday (May 31) with a new album titled WAWG (We All We Got).
The 14-song album is the duo’s first Death Row Records release since their 1995 debut, Dogg Food. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg contributed to about half of the songs on the album, making it a family affair. The final song, “Who’s Hardest?” features RBX, Snoop Dogg and The Lady of Rage, who contributed to Dr. Dre’s landmark 1992 debut, The Chronic.
Overall, the project stays true to each artist’s West Coast gangster rap roots, with a clear nod to Parliament Funk. Some songs are slow (“Grown Up,” “The Weekend”), while others are blazing (“Favorite Color Blue,” “House Party”).
WAWG marked an important moment in Tha Dogg Pound’s career, as it was their first collaboration with Snoop Dogg since their 2005 reunion.
In April, Daz Dillinger and Kurupt teamed up to release the single “Smoke Up,” featuring Snoop Dogg, to kick off the album’s rollout. Like “Finesse” and “Bangin U Up,” the album is being released on Gala Music in addition to being released on other major streaming platforms.
Prior to Tha Dogg Pound’s latest release, Snoop Dogg partnered with Gala Music during Super Bowl LIV 2022 to combine Web3 experiences with unique immersive entertainment experiences.
The result was their partnership with Death Row Records, which was reflected in the release of Snoop’s album “Bacc on Death Row” (BODR) on the Gala platform. In addition to the album release, BODR is also being released in the form of 25,000 exclusive NFT storage boxes.
