Nicki Minaj has been on a roll lately. She broke the record for the highest-grossing tour by a female rapper, and her latest album contained her first solo No. 1 single. Minaj continued the positive vibes as she hosted several guests during the show. She reunited with Drake at the Toronto show and sent flowers to the Young Money artist in early May. However, Minaj decided to take things up a notch during her London show. She invited dancehall king Beenie Man to perform.
The rapper welcomed Beenie Man with all the respect one could expect. When he came in, all she asked for was a hug, and she started bowing to Beenie Man and the rest of the crowd. Beenie Man was quick to echo the compliment, noting that if Minaj is the king of dancehall, then he’s the queen of hip-hop. The two artists then helped Minaj and Beenie Man perform Beenie Man’s classic track “I’m Drinking / Rum & Redbull.” Nicki Minaj is one of the most outspoken and loudest artists in the genre, so her respect is notable. The rapper even posted about the stage collaboration via X (formerly Twitter).

Nicki Minaj considers Beenie Man an ‘inspiration’
“I just performed with KING OF DANCEHALL,” Minaj tweeted. “He is one of the most talented musicians I have looked to for inspiration my entire career. Sometimes I can’t believe this is my life. Wow. One of my heroes. I love this man so much. @KingBeenieMan . from Trini”, which features appearances by artists such as Skillibeng and Skeng.
Nicki Minaj even took to Stationhead to tell fans who didn’t like her dancehall clips to get over it. “Y’all, some people don’t like it, and that’s okay,” she pointed out. “They’re going to have to live with it… If y’all can’t relate to this music, I’m sorry.” Minaj isn’t the first Young Money artist to connect with Beenie Man, either. Drake featured these legendary artists on his blockbuster 2016 album Views. Beanie didn’t have the actual verse of the song, but he provided the ending on “Controlla.”
