In Apple Music’s recent ranking of the 100 best albums of all time, Joe Budden and Jermaine Dupri agree.
The Slaughterhouse host discussed the list in the latest episode of his podcast of the same name, released on Tuesday (May 28). Like JD, he also took issue with the glaring omission of some classic R&B albums and the lower ranking of others.
“Just talking about R&B, what did they do? [Sade‘s] Like the deluxe room, [Usher‘s] repent, [SZA‘s] Ctrl, prince and [Michael Jackson] It’s shocking,” he said. “This list is actually disrespectful to a lot of R&B. There are a lot of great R&B albums [that are missing]. [Marvin Gaye‘s What’s Going On not being in the Top 10] Tell you they don’t respect the other members of R&B.
One thing Budden did note was done right was Kendrick Lamar’s good kid mAAd city making the top 10, even though his former podcast co-host Marr disagreed.

In mid-May, Apple began rolling out their listings within a week. In a press release, the company described the rankings as “an editorial statement, completely independent of any streaming numbers on its platform” and “a love letter to the records that have shaped the lives and listening of music fans around the world.” .
As the picks dropped, Jermaine Dupri couldn’t help but notice the lack of R&B songs.

“It’s sad to look at @AppleMusic’s top 100 albums list, the disrespect for R&B is crazy!!!! It’s not worth it [face palm emoji]”he wrote in a post to X (formerly Twitter) earlier this month.
Some of the R&B albums on the list include Usher’s Confessions (#95), Solange’s A Seat at the Table (#93), Mary J. Blige’s My Life (#86), SZA’s SOS (#72), Erykah Badu’s Baduizm (#93). What’s Going On (#17).
SZA was also unhappy with the low ranking of her chart-topping and record-breaking SOS album.
After learning of the list, the TDE singer wrote in an Instagram comment: “Lmao 72nd so disrespectful.”
