Year of issue: 2015
Target: Buggy Malone (and others)
Standout line: “I’ll dunk your mixtape in holy water, take it out and play Frisbee”
In March 2015, North London legend Chip posted his fiery diss song “Pepper Riddim” on YouTube, targeting not one but five MCs – Tinie Tempah, Bugzy Malone, Big Narstie, Devilman and Saskilla – and DJ Cameo, emphasizing his rich bars and unwavering confidence. Chip has also released Stormzy diss tracks in the past, including the viral track (which took five hours to record and film) “Dickhead.” Produced by Ruff Sqwad’s Prince Rapid, “Pepper Riddim” is high energy and driven by relentless beats. Mainly targeting Bugzy Malone, who sparked a firestorm of controversy when he took a shot at Chip on Charlie Sloth’s Fire In The Booth and claimed he left dirt on pop music Chip’s bold declaration of dominance on “Pepper Riddim,” in which he spits: “I “dip your mixtape in holy water, take it out, and play Frisbee,” playing Bugzy’s famous catchphrase “Become the Devil ,” mocking Manchester Rhymes and calling his catalog boring. The diss showcased Chip’s ability to easily mock the presenter through hilarious one-liners, sharp puns and clever punchlines that left a lasting impression on listeners. Impression. “Pepper Riddim” is one of many war dubs that proves Chip is not one to be fooled. ——Naz Hamdi
