Portland rapper Amine took to social media over the weekend to tease that his inaugural music festival in the Rose City was “the best day ever.”

PORTLAND, Ore. — “Portland kids have their own festival,” a new festival is kicking off in Portland this summer.

Portland-born rapper, singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and current founder of Portland’s newest music festival, Adam Aminé Daniel (professionally known as Aminé) took to social media over the weekend to tease his inaugural festival in the Rose City. “The best day ever”.

The festival will be held at McMenamins’ Edgefield Concerts on Troutdale Lawn on August 10 and 11, according to a promotional video on social media.

He gained worldwide attention in 2016 with his breakthrough single “Caroline,” which peaked at No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, launching a successful career and having an Instagram 1.7 million ardent fans.

The Ethiopian-American rapper previously made his orchestral debut with the Oregon Symphony in November 2022.

The Northeast Portland native announced the festival on Instagram over the weekend with a promotional video. In the film, Amine appears to be sitting at Helen Bernhard Bakery in Portland, brainstorming ideas for a name for the festival over the phone.

On the phone, a colleague suggested that “Aminéchella” refers to the historic Coachella music festival, while “Banana Loud” emphasizes Aminé’s Club Banana merchandise brand and international hip-hop music festival Rolling Loud. After presenting the options, the pair ultimately settled on “The Best Day Ever,” similar to the rapper’s 2022 tour, “The Best Tour Ever.”

In the caption of the trailer announcement video, the rapper revealed that the festival was “years in the making ☀️.” The festival lineup will be announced on Monday, with pre-sale of tickets starting at 10 a.m., according to the festival’s Instagram page.

The video features an unreleased song produced by Portland-based producer Pasqué, Aminé’s longtime collaborator. The title “Portland Kids Have Their Own Day” is highlighted at the end of the video.

The rapper previously announced a sneaker partnership with New Balance in May 2023 on a billboard in Northeast Portland. At the time, the eye-catching sepia-toned billboard with an image of bananas in a crate and the powerful message “Kid from Portland Gets His Own Sneakers” caught the attention of many in the Pacific Northwest.
