Hip-hop wars are all the rage right now, but we all need some time to calm down, relax, and get more in tune with some more relaxing tunes. Plus, we’ve launched a new R&B season playlist update, sharing with you a selection of the week’s best genre-adjacent releases. Speaking of big drops, the most anticipated one is 4batz’s debut “u made me a st4r”, which represents his rapid rise in the ranks of up-and-coming artists. There are highlights throughout, with one particularly catchy and smoky listen being “Act Five: There’s Another Vase.”
Elsewhere, we get Rapsody banging her R&B bag with the Erykah Badu-assisted cut “3:AM.” Yet she lets Badu take charge of the vocal, melodic and harmonic beauty over crisp, saxophone-accompanied, chilled-out rhythms that lend themselves to hits in a variety of genres. The North Carolina MC taps into some quiet but still impactful verses and flows, as well as some introspective themes of coming to terms with insecurities and reflecting on acknowledgments and processes with those closest to you.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist: Streaming
Another big collaboration coming out this week is the two singers joining forces for a sexy yet still atmospheric and powerful cut. Chris Brown and J. Valentine deliver the vocals on “UnLonely,” combining simple piano leads with a hand-clapping trap beat and flipping the flow with ease. The contrast in this song doesn’t really highlight anything unique about it, but it does provide an interesting clash between the more tender elements and the more hyped elements. In other words, it’s exactly the kind of balance that many of today’s R&B or rap-related albums achieve with each other, which is always a delight.
Finally, we’d like to give a shout-out to Coco Jones’ new song “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” as it pays homage to the old soul style. But the only thing that shines brighter than the rich instrumentation here is Coco’s gorgeous vocal performance, which is another win.
