Raleigh, NC emcee Mez releases his fifth EP to celebrate his 34th birthday. He rose to prominence in 2010 with his debut mixtape “The Paraplegics” and with his debut EP “The King’s Khrysis” produced by Khrysis, as well as his first full-length album “My Everternity Zeal” and second album “Long Live the King” Continue to make a name for yourself. After being featured on Dr. Dre’s third and final album, Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, he released a 2-song EP trilogy titled Data Plan, with Mass Appeal Records signed to release Loading.
“Yeah Yeah” starts with a downtrodden sample and then those drums hit you in the face like a ton of bricks talking about just wanting a happy home, while “Humma Time” features Childish Major taking Take the bass trap route you can’t do. In Isaiah Rashad’s soulful “Hot Spot,” Isaiah Rashad talks about staying in touch after they were gone, ‘Call On’ The gears shifted into boom bap territory thanks to Tae Beast telling his other half that she was still the one he called upon.
MAVI and SAINt JHN join Mez on the song “Bat Phone,” bringing back the kick and snare and mixing in a low-pitched sample, explaining how they got rich, until “Devil is a Judge” keeps the boom going, pondering Satan himself Whether it’s really a judge or not. Finally, the closing song “Around the World” ends Loading on a smoother note, dedicating it to every south side of the world.
There is no doubt in my mind that Loading will only lead to the upcoming second LP, especially after returning in four years and getting a Mass Appeal deal, I believe this will be Mez’s strongest studio yet The album, especially now that your Loading is almost as good as The King’s Khrysis. He joins forces with guests and producers to share his playful sense of soulful music and his dedication to honing it in preparation for the birth of larger works.
