NBA YoungBoy’s legal woes have become increasingly serious after he was arrested on multiple charges while on house arrest in Utah.
The Baton Rouge native, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was booked into the Cache County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday night (April 16), according to jail records obtained by HipHopDX.
He was charged with a range of weapons, drug and fraud offences, including: Pattern of Unlawful Activity; Obtaining or Attempting to Obtain Drugs/Prescriptions; Identity Fraud; Forgery; Possession of Other Controlled Substances; Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person.
No bond has been set.
YoungBoy was charged with “felony possession of a firearm” in his home state of Louisiana and has been confined to his Salt Like City mansion since late 2021.
The 24-year-old, who was previously convicted of aggravated armed assault in 2017, was allegedly caught carrying two guns while filming a music video in Baton Rouge in September 2020.
He was later arrested on those charges in Los Angeles after a brief pursuit. Another gun was found in his car during the arrest, and federal prosecutors in California filed similar charges against him.
YoungBoy was acquitted of those charges in 2022, but is still awaiting trial in Louisiana on the original indictment.
Federal prosecutors cited the rapper’s alleged drug habit in a February filing accusing him of violating the terms of “our house arrest.”[ing] or illegal possession[ing] Narcotic drugs or other controlled substances.
U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. further claimed that YoungBoy had “notified his supervisory officer that he had no intention of discontinuing use of the substance that resulted in the violation.”
In recent months, the Last of Slemetto host has drawn fans’ attention through various social media posts that have highlighted apparent substance abuse issues.
Earlier this year, he posted a photo on Instagram of himself lying on the floor with a vacant look in his eyes, next to a bottle of prescription pills and a Styrofoam cup filled with something skinny-looking.
He captioned the shocking image: “This is why I don’t answer the phone when it rings.”
However, in a December 2023 interview with Bootleg Kev, YoungBoy claimed that the perception that he was a heavy drug user was inaccurate.
“I recently went to rehab for a weekend,” he revealed. “I still have the impression that I was doing a lot of drugs, so I was kind of like, ‘Oh, this is taking over his mind’ or something, and at the same time… now I’m kind of accepting that it’s just going to be therapy from now on. “
