Backlash has been a theme throughout Lizzo’s career. The Detroit, Miss., singer has been one of the music industry’s biggest stars over the past few years. Almost everyone knows that reputation is a good reason for people to say negative things about you. However, the criticism doesn’t really revolve around her music. This comes amid allegations of severe sexual harassment and a hostile work environment by her former dancers. Additionally, a large audience, including conservative politician Candace Owens, objected to the public action. All of these reasons may have factored into Lizzo’s latest rant, in which she said, “I quit.”
The “About Damn Time” artist has seemingly been reluctant to truly speak her mind, and Lizzo took out her haters. Lizzo did just that last night via Instagram Stories, according to TMZ , shortly after people were upset about her performance at a Joe Biden fundraiser over the aforementioned accusations. The event was held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and other performers included Queen Latifah, Ben Platt and more. Lizzo’s explosive message read: “I am constantly met with lies about my influence and opinions… and made the joke every time because of my appearance… I did not sign up for this event* **… I quit.”

Will Lizzo quit for good?
She also felt that “the world didn’t need me to be a part of it” and that all she wanted to do was “make music and make people happy.” There are certainly a few ways to evaluate these comments from Lizzo. She might say “I quit” to get off social media, or at least take a break. Another way to look at it is that she could stop trying to please critics and just live her life. Or, in the most extreme sense, she was tired of the music. There’s bound to be more to come, so be sure to hang in there.
What do you think about Lizzo saying “I quit” on social media? Do you think this has been going on for a while, or is it because of recent events? Will she quit social media for good, or will she take a short break? Or, do you think she’s talking about giving up music entirely?
