Earlier this week, Beyoncé officially revealed the album cover for her new album. The second act of her Renaissance series, titled “COWBOY CARTER,” will launch later this month. The album cover caused some controversy among Bay’s fans. It prominently features the American flag, which echoes the album’s theme of country music and Americana. Bay must have been aware of the controversy, as she was quick to release a deluxe version of the cover that fans seemed to prefer.
But even this album cover is controversial. Erykah Badu reposted the newly shared album cover to her Instagram Stories with the caption, “HMMM.” She seemed to suggest that Beyoncé copied her, especially since her hair looked very similar to Badu’s past looks. But in the comments, fans disagreed. “This is probably a nod to Rick James, Venus and Serena,” one commenter said. “If you guys want to master technology, Rick James did it first,” another agreed. Erykah Badu accuses Beyoncé of copying her hairstyle
Beyoncé dropped two singles last month to tease the album. While “16 CARRIAGES” was well received by fans and performed well, its success paled in comparison to the lead single “TEXAS HOLD EM”. The song reached number one on the Hot 100 and remains in the top ten more than a month later. The song has more than 182 million plays on Spotify.
Earlier this month, Dolly Parton unexpectedly revealed big news about her upcoming album. She revealed that somewhere on the record was a cover of her classic song “Jolene.” It’s unclear whether it’s a direct overlay or just interpolation. What do you think about Erykah Badu’s claim that Beyoncé copied her hair? Do you think Bey was inspired by Badu or someone else entirely? Let us know in the comments section below.
