Diddy’s attorneys told a federal judge they still can’t reach Diddy in Fort Dix because the deadline for Lil Rod’s lawsuit has been pushed back to August.
Diddy’s planned countersuit against Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones keeps getting delayed, and the reason isn’t strategy. This is a jail phone problem that’s not going away.
His civil attorneys have been given an extra three weeks to file his amended defense and counterclaim in Jones’ lawsuit, pushing the original deadline to July 21.
Then, on July 19, attorney Erica A. Wolff sent a letter to U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken seeking another extension, this time to August 11.
“We write on behalf of defendant Sean Coombs to request, in accordance with this court’s personal rules, that the deadline for Mr. Coombs to file an amended defense and counterclaim be postponed for an additional three weeks,” Wolfe wrote.

The reason is the same reason they got the first extension.
“As we explained in our June 24 letter, Mr. Combs is currently incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix and we were unable to contact Mr. Combs as the deadline approached,” Wolf told the court.
Lawyers also pointed out the issue at the July 14 meeting and warned the judge that the issue remains unresolved.
“Unfortunately, these challenges continue,” Wolff wrote, turning what seemed like a scheduling issue into a structural one.
That means Diddy’s response to Jones is now deep into August, while the producer’s lawsuit continues unanswered.
Jones sued Diddy in 2024, accusing the hip-hop mogul of sexual assault, harassment, drug use and other misconduct on “Off The Grid.” Didi denies the accusations.
The case has been significantly streamlined. Judge Oetken dismissed Jones’ civil RICO claim, breach of contract claim, emotional distress claim and TVPA claim against Combs Global. The sexual assault and premises liability claims survived, leaving Jones with a smaller but still dangerous case on his hands.
Diddy was convicted by a jury on two counts of trafficking for prostitution and is currently serving a 50-month sentence at FCI Prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, and his appeal is pending.
His expected release date is February 23, 2028.
