A Florida principal has been placed on administrative leave after Fetty Wap lyrics were included in the school’s yearbook.
Katie O’Connell, the principal of Trout Creek Academy in St. Johns County, faces disciplinary action for misconduct after a line from the New Jersey rapper’s song “Trap Queen” was plastered in the yearbook and attributed to her. O’Connell insisted she did not agree with the quote – “Everyone hates it, but we just call them fans” – included in the yearbook and said it did not appear in the final evidence she had seen.
“I did not put that quote in the yearbook or approve it for inclusion in the yearbook,” O’Connell told Action News Jax on May 29.
The line caused an uproar among parents. O’Connell claimed she was harassed as a result and hired a lawyer.
“There are parents who go directly to the school district, directly to the news or directly to Facebook. They don’t even call me. All I need is time or an opportunity to correct a mistake that was made that was not of my making.”
Investigators have not yet determined who made the quote in the yearbook. O’Connell’s leave will last until the end of her contract on June 30.
