JID is clearly in no mood for poetic encouragement, BET silence, or J. Cole’s version of praise.
The Dreamville lyricist had a spicy Tuesday after his 2026 BET Awards nominations were pulled and his name was nowhere to be found.
According to XXL, JID wrote on Twitter: “I hate BET” after being excluded from the nomination list. This snub may sting even more because JID said he wanted to be nominated for a BET Awards. Like most of us, he grew up online. “I just wanted to experience the nostalgia of watching ‘Bet,'” he said. “That’s how my love for hip-hop, BET, and all that kind of radio was born.” Now, it’s hate.
Things get worse.
J. Cole appears. The North Carolina wordsmith recently paid tribute to JID on his 26th Birthday Blizzard’s “99 Build Freestyle,” rapping, “If hip-hop comes back, JID should go platinum/Anything below that, means y’all are awesome.” Well…that’s the boss talking.
On the surface, it sounds like Kerr is boasting about his players. But JID apparently heard different voices. When a fan reportedly brought up Cole’s bar, JID fired back in a now-deleted tweet.
“N#### don’t mean s###. I’m too platinum, that bar is too bad. I’m too platinum, that bar is too bad,” he said.
And, for the record, JID is not talking nonsense. His collaboration with 21 Savage and Baby Tate, “Surround Sound,” received RIAA certification on April 18, 2025. Boo-YA.
Still…JID is really angry at Cole, or is this just frustration bouncing off the walls? BET announced the 2026 nominations on May 19, with Cardi B leading the way with six nominations, and Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist each receiving five nominations. JID, despite the dope bars and Grammy recognition…just a goose egg.
Maybe he should have given us an interview last year. He ignored our team in Dreamville.
I doubt there is Dreamville beef. Bro is just sulking. He is a talented rapper. But calling your record label owner’s bar a “jerk” is definitely a way to keep things more left than right.
