A date has been set for the trial of Pooh Shiesty, Big30 and seven co-defendants in connection with the Gucci Mane kidnapping and robbery case.
On Tuesday (May 19), Senior U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey signed a pretrial order setting the trial for July 6. A final pretrial conference will be held on July 1. Prosecutors have until June 1 to provide the defendant with all evidence in the case.
Vinnie, Big30 and Vinnie’s father pleaded not guilty in the case two weeks ago. All nine men remain in custody and could face life in prison if convicted.
The group is accused of luring Gucci Mane to a Dallas recording studio in January under the guise of discussing business and recording music. However, during the meeting, the agitators claimed, Vinnie produced an automatic weapon and threatened Gooch at gunpoint to sign a release form from his contract. Others robbed Gucci and members of his entourage of jewelry, cash and other items.
Pooh Shiesty and others were arrested in April following a raid on the rapper’s father’s home in Tennessee.
Vinnie Shesty’s lead attorney, Bradford Cohen, withdrew from the case last month. Cohen will be replaced by Dallas attorneys Dan Cogdell and Kent Schaffer. Cohen insisted there were many holes in the prosecution’s case and felt strongly that Vinnie could defeat the charges.
