Do-it-yourself hair salon? That’s what happened after this Dallas woman booked an appointment with StyleSeat. After paying $264, Janay (@realjanay) unfortunately left her hair appointment without getting the cut she wanted.
“Let me tell you how [expletive] “Janay cheated on me last night while I was under the hair dryer,” Janay says at the beginning of the video. She said the stylist bleached a section of her hair blonde, but it turned out pink. So, the stylist bleached it again and toned it. Finally, the stylist cut her hair and Janay sat under a blow dryer for about two hours, blow-drying her pixie cut. Janay said she realized it was taking too long, so she got out from under the hairdryer to look. However, the stylist had already left.
Hair appointment in Dallas gone wrong: Six hours later…
By this point, Janay had been in the salon for six hours; her hair wasn’t done yet and her stylist was nowhere to be found. And the cherry on top? Janay’s Lululemon bags are not in the store. Janai said she called her stylist, but the woman didn’t explain why she wasn’t in the store. She also had no explanation for the missing Lululemon bag. Janai said she told the stylist she was going to call the police.
“So, I called her back and told her my [expletive] “The Lululemon bag is gone, I’m going to call the police,” Janay said. Unfortunately, Janay said the police did not help. However, she said the stylist eventually returned to the salon. Upon arrival, Janay discovered that the stylist’s mother had moved her Lululemon bag without notifying her. It also became clear what the stylist did while she was away.
“Then this [stylist] Coming back; she went into the store. this [stylist] Makeup is done. this [stylist] Makeup is done! “Janai emphasized. Janai said the stylist offered to do her hair, but by then Janai had grown tired of it.
“The crazy thing is, I already paid her. Her StyleSeat…it was auto-checkout. So, I already paid her $264,” Janay concluded.
What viewers thought of Nightmare Dallas Hair Appointment
As of this writing, the video has received 59,700 views and nearly 4,000 comments. Janai’s experience shocked people – especially the price.
“264 is a pixie cut no,” one person shared.
“$264 elf screwed up in the morning??? We’re losing the plot…” someone else said.
“Your first red flag is paying a full upfront…deposit before services are rendered, that’s what I understand. A complete no-no. I would move on immediately after reading this,” said another viewer.
“OMG I’m so sorry! These stylists need to get their schedules together! If you have a concert to go to just say so! Haha I just read her story and saw she was at a ken the man concert! It’s all about communication and everyone is lacking! Get an old school stylist too because that price is too high!” one commenter pointed out.
In fact, on April 24, Janay said she had a date, a KenTheMan concert in Dallas.
Janai named the stylist. A Google search for the stylist’s name and location reveals a Facebook account with a link to the StyleSeat page and an Instagram account with a link to the business website. AllHipHop was unable to confirm that this is the stylist Janay was referring to, as the TikToker did not respond to viewers’ requests asking her to identify the stylist’s Instagram account. AllHipHop has reached out to the stylist via their website’s contact form to confirm if they are the stylist Janay was referring to.
“This is not a Dallas stylist,” another commenter said, referring to Janai’s warning about Dallas hairdressers. “That’s the stylist. I’ve heard of her, but I’m not from Dallas.”
Is this a StyleSeat scam?
Janai insists the stylist tried to frame her and get her money out of her hair even though she didn’t get it done. She believes the only reason the stylist came back to the salon was because she said she was going to call the police.
Janay said she booked an appointment on StyleSeat, a platform for booking salons and independent stylists. If this was an intentional scam, Janay wouldn’t be the first person on StyleSeat to be scammed by a stylist. In fact, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received 174 complaints against StyleSeat. Complaints vary. Some are from customers like Janay, explaining that they didn’t get what they paid for, and some are from stylists themselves, saying the platform steals their tips.
“On May 31st, I had an appointment with my stylist REMOVED. A few days before and on the day of the appointment, she was completely unresponsive when I asked her to confirm her address… I had to text and message her almost 10 times and call her more than 10 times and she didn’t answer! When she did, no time had passed and we agreed to cancel the messages and messages. Didn’t help her at all!!
When you book a new stylist online that you’ve never met before, be sure to do your research ahead of time to make sure the experience is worth your money.
