All four men were found guilty of murdering Jacksonville, Florida rapper Foolio.
On Friday (May 8), a jury in Tampa, Florida found Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder after a month-long trial. The verdict in the case came after eight hours of deliberations.
Garthright and the Murphys were also convicted of attempted second-degree murder for injuring several other people during the shooting, the Tampa Bay Tribune reported. Additionally, the jury agreed with the state that Chance and the Murphys were members of a gang and that the shooting was related to their gang activity.
Prosecutors testified in court that on June 23, 2024, Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Rashad Murphy, Davion Murphy and Chance’s girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, killed Tampa on a mission for his birthday. In front of the Holiday Inn. Investigators said Chance and Andrews provided the trio with information on the rapper’s whereabouts.
The next step in the trial is the penalty phase, which is due to begin on Monday (May 11). Prosecutors plan to ask the jury to recommend the death penalty for all four defendants.
In November, the fifth person charged with murder, Alicia Andrews, was found guilty of manslaughter at trial. She is currently awaiting sentencing.
