Amber Rose revealed on her podcast that she encouraged Kanye West to drink Hennessy before infamously interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs.
Amber Rose just revealed she played a major role in one of hip-hop’s most controversial moments.
The model and entrepreneur appeared on the “Ball in the Family” podcast with Lonzo Ball and LiAngelo Ball this week and admitted that she encouraged Taylor Swift to drink before the 2009 VMA Awards, directly fueling Kany West’s famous feud with Swift.
Ross, 42, made no secret of his involvement in the career-defining incident for both artists.
She recalled telling Ye before the ceremony, “You’re a superstar. We need to get Hennessy. We need to shoot Hennessy on the carpet.”
She continued to hype him up, saying, “You’re the greatest thing in the whole world.”
The whole thing was moving faster than she expected. Rose explained that once they arrived at the venue, everything moved very quickly and she was not prepared for what actually happened.
“All of a sudden, I’m sitting there, and then he’s on stage. I’m like, ‘Oh, ###. I didn’t expect that,'” she said.
She admitted the situation was counterproductive, but she also defended Kanye’s underlying message about the award going to the wrong person.
When Kanye took the stage, he interrupted 19-year-old Swift’s Best Female Vocal Performance acceptance speech and delivered his now-infamous line: “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time.”
Rose still has mixed feelings about the current situation.
“That’s who Kanye is. Do I agree with what he’s doing? No. But is he right? Yes. That’s how I feel,” she said.
Ross and Kanye dated from 2008 to 2010, and their relationship ended when Kanye’s attention turned to Kim Kardashian.
In 2012, Ross publicly called Kim a “homewrecker” for her role in the breakup. Kanye and Kim eventually got married, but divorced in early 2021, and Kanye is now married to Yeezy designer Bianca Csori.
Rose has started a life and family of her own. She married rapper Wiz Khalifa in 2013, with whom she had a 13-year-old son, Sebastian Taylor Thomaz, but they divorced just a year later.
She also has a 6-year-old son, Slash Electric Alexander Edwards, with AE Edwards.
Despite some drama surrounding the VMA event, Rose revealed that she has actually spoken to Swift since then and there is no lingering tension between them.
