Michelle Evans has filed a defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe over claims by her camp that she was jailed for attempted murder.
Shannon Sharpe can’t seem to get out of court, and now public statements made by his camp on his behalf have become the basis of a brand new defamation lawsuit against him.
Michele Evans sued, claiming comments publicly recorded during Sharpe’s defense last year left her mentally shattered and isolated from the world.
Last year, Evans filed a civil lawsuit against Sharp, claiming they had a romance in the early 2000s when Sharp was a reporter for ESPN and Sharp was a standout with the Broncos.
According to Evans, their relationship derailed after Sharpe allegedly became abusive and possessive and eventually raped her.
Evans’ new lawsuit, filed on April 24, 2026, targets a statement in which Sharpe’s side denies her claims and declares that she “served 3 years in prison and is still on probation for trying to kill her husband in order to hopefully develop a relationship with Shannon.”
Evans said that statement was completely false and that she never attempted to harm her husband under any circumstances.
“[Shannon Sharpe’s] The statement is false. [I] no attempt to kill [my] The husband did not participate in the alleged conduct [Sharpe]. [Sharpe] Knowing that the statements were false at the time they were made, or with reckless disregard for their truth or falsity. [Sharpe] No reasonable investigation was conducted before such serious allegations were made,” Evans said in the complaint.
She brought claims of defamation per se, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress, as well as punitive and compensatory damages.
The impairments Evans described in her complaint were widespread, including post-traumatic stress disorder, severe anxiety, panic attacks, depression and agoraphobia.
“[I] Ongoing psychotherapy, including weekly therapy, was and continues to be required. [I] further harmed [my] reputation, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life and social withdrawal,” Evans said.
She also claims that Sharpe’s already damaging claims were further twisted and made worse on social media, with people spreading versions that she actually killed her husband, rather than just trying to kill him.
Evans has been facing off against Shannon Sharp in court since 2023, when she filed her first defamation lawsuit against Sharp for $4 million, and later filed a second lawsuit under the New York City Gender Motivated Violence Act, which she claims occurred in 2010, as AllHipHop previously reported.
The new filing comes as Sharp grapples with serious legal and financial repercussions related to separate accusations.
He settled a $50 million lawsuit filed by Gabriella Zuniga in July 2025 for reportedly around $20 million, and ESPN severed ties with him days after the deal was confirmed.
