“Why did they allow multiple stops in the first place?”
Don’t you like DoorDash? For just a few dollars more, you can get a meal right outside your favorite restaurant. However, this Florida customer shows us it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. Sometimes, your order may arrive in less than ideal condition.
Alexis (@alexisk0777) is so excited to get her DoorDash order. Unfortunately, some of the items in her order didn’t arrive at her door exactly as expected.
In a video detailing the experience, Alexis stands at the sink and pours a thin milkshake down the drain.
“When you throw a milkshake in the door but the driver ‘makes multiple stops along the way’ and now it’s trash they won’t refund you,” the video’s text overlay reads.
What viewers are saying about Soupy DoorDash milkshakes
The video has over 2.4 million views and 2,000 comments. Viewers had a variety of theories about Alexis’ situation.
“‘If you want fresh food you can pick it up yourself’ I have to pay extra for delivery and tip and I hope the food is good quality,” one comment said.
“Don’t throw the ice cream through the door,” another said.
“Mistake No. 1: Ordering a milkshake on DoorDash,” another comment noted.
“‘Why door-to-door ice cream’…well, because I can and it’s on the menu?” someone else shared.
“This whole multiple-stop thing is getting out of hand!” said one comment with more than 27,000 likes.
DoorDash route delivery
So what’s going on with DoorDash drivers making multiple stops before delivering an order? This is called “route delivery”. According to the DoorDash support page, “A route delivery is a group of three or more orders with a pickup location and multiple delivery points along a route.” The support page explains that a route delivery can go from a pickup location through 3 to 10 stops. So it’s no surprise that Alexis’ milkshake arrived melted.
There are a lot of comments online about the inconvenience caused to customers by route delivery. A Reddit post documented the frustration of a customer who tipped at least 25% on his order, only to have it arrive late.
“Lately every time I order, I’m told that my order is on its way…but, the dasher will take another order first. Is this a new thing? I pay a decent amount, and I’m a really good tipper…at least 25%. Usually more, depending on how far I know the dasher will have to drive from the restaurant. I think a good tip means better service,” m/tudor said.
DoorDasher responded, explaining that’s not entirely the case.
“Don’t blame the driver. Blame doordash. They give us two at a time and tell us how long each order needs to be delivered. If you don’t keep certain statistics, then they won’t give you any good orders,” someone who calls himself Dasher responded.
A somewhat happy ending?
Alexis updated the title of the video to let viewers know that she did eventually get a refund.
“Update: We got a refund and the driver kept her $10 tip. My mom ordered the milkshake as part of the kids meal, so no big deal, just thought the video was funny. I guess I learned my lesson, no need to hate anyone, good soup,” Alexis said.
AllHipHop has reached out to Alexis for comment via TikTok private message and email, and to DoorDash via email. We will update this story if either party responds.
