After old dating rumors about Shyne and Mase resurfaced, Brandy clarified that the story people thought they knew wasn’t the truth.

Brandi isn’t going to let old rumors rewrite her history, and now Shane, Cam’ron, and Mace are part of a conversation she clearly didn’t ask to relive.

The beloved singer and actress, forever etched in hip-hop-adjacent culture through her music and her role in “Moesha,” came out this week to correct what she says is a completely false narrative about her personal life. The issue dates back to a recent episode of Camron and Mays’ sports and culture talk show “It Is What It Is,” where a casual conversation turned viral after Shane seemingly confirmed old rumors that he and Mays were both romantically involved with Brandi when they were younger.

Brandy didn’t feel that version of history at all.

“In the late ’90s, I had a platonic friendship with rapper Shyne. Unfortunately, that friendship is now incorrectly described as ‘we dated.’ To be clear, we did not!” she said in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “I don’t know why in the media interviews he is currently giving, an untrue narrative about the scope of the friendship over 20 years ago is being recast.”

From the outside, this feels like one of those stories where nostalgia meets podcast culture, and suddenly everyone becomes a historian documenting moments that may or may not have happened the way they remember. And in this day and age, perceptions can change faster than facts.

Things escalated when Ray J joined the chat.

The singer’s brother aggressively defended his sister on-air, even verbally threatening the three rappers. But Brandi quickly made it clear that she wasn’t signing up for this energy and didn’t want to get involved in any digital wars.

“Also, I rarely make statements and usually ignore headlines about me, even if they are false. But when I decide to stand up for myself, I take matters into my own hands,” she added. “While I love my brother Ray J, I do not condone or support the messages he shares on social media, nor do I ask him to defend me in any way.”

If something positive comes out of this unexpected controversy, it might be the perfect time for her to start her next chapter. Brandi also revealed that the situation prompted her to finally tell her story in her own words.

“People telling their side of my story is why I’m releasing my upcoming memoir, Phases. It’s time to speak my truth and debunk the many misnomers that people think they know about my life,” she concluded.

The memoir “PHASES” will be published on March 31. Looks like she’s getting some good publicity out of this crap.
