West Coast legend YG just released a new song, and it’s a sign of things to come. The song, titled “State of Emergency,” sets the tone for YG’s completed album.
YG revealed the news on Instagram, where he not only announced the song but also mentioned that an album is also coming soon. The song’s artwork itself is a black-and-white portrait of the rapper in front of a microphone in what appears to be a three-piece suit.
The song is a West Coast rhythm-based song with a laid-back (yet aggressive) delivery and witty punchlines. The last time we saw YG block like this was on RedBull Cypher, and that was nothing but elite rap. YG talks about how he dealt with “smoke” and dismisses those who thought he would “fail”.
In fact, the rapper raps over the beat at the end of the song, without music, just to get the point across. Check out the song below!
