Apple Music has implemented a new AI transparency label to mark AI-created content.
The music streaming giant announced the amendments on Wednesday (March 4). Apple Music’s latest update now features what they call Transparency Labels, a series of disclosure labels that music publishers and record labels must now use.
These tags will be applied to four sections: Tracks, Compositions, Music Videos and Artwork. If AI was used to create a “Material Section” it now needs to be listed under the AI Transparency tab. However, revealing the information is up to the publisher and record label, with Apple Music stating that “nothing is assumed if omitted.”
“Properly labeling content is the first step in providing the music industry with the data and tools needed to develop thoughtful policies around artificial intelligence, and we believe labels and publishers must play an active role in reporting that the content they provide is created using artificial intelligence,” Apple said in the newsletter.
The new update comes as artificial intelligence content continues to pour into DSPs. According to Music Business Worldwide, French streaming service Deezer revealed in January that it receives 60,000 songs a day that are entirely generated by artificial intelligence. Last year, Deezer began building its own artificial intelligence detection system, using technical analysis to detect non-human content. Currently, Apple is taking a self-reporting approach.
