An Amazon driver had some complaints about people using fake names on their accounts as well as public service announcements: If you end up using a fake name and give your real name at the door, you won’t be able to receive your package.
TikTok content creator Legit Gang (@legitgangfg), a Twitch streamer and Amazon driver, advises customers to change their funny fake names to the names they actually provide at the door to ensure delivery. His video has since racked up 10,000 views, with many commenters adding their thoughts and letting drivers know that their choice of funny name won’t be changing anytime soon.
Wait, can you be called anything on Amazon?
Technically, an Amazon account can have any account name. One commenter said they were called “moms” on the platform. Another said they named themselves “Jake Paul,” after the famous former YouTuber and boxer of the same name.
But other commenters said they used pseudonyms to avoid annoying mispronunciations and confusion. “I work in a fulfillment center and get orders from there on a regular basis,” said one viewer. “My name is not common, so I wrote my initials.”
Amazon does have some restrictions on what account holders can name, but it’s not extremely restrictive. Amazon’s conditions of use do not require customers to use their legal names. But the name used on Amazon orders may need to match a legal ID, depending on the purchase. Customers also need to be responsible and aware of the name they use on the platform, as delivery drivers may eventually ask for it to confirm they are delivering to the correct person.
How do you change your public display name on Amazon?
It’s easy to change your public display name on Amazon. So if you initially set it to something ridiculous and want to change it to your legal name or vice versa, you still have a way to do that without setting up a new account.
Simply log into your Amazon account and go to Accounts & Listings. This option should be available in the drop-down menu. Then, make sure to select Manage Profiles. Afterwards, you should be able to view the profile whose name you want to change. There will be a little pencil icon there that will allow you to change your Amazon name. Save the changes before closing the browser and you should have a new name on the sales platform.
If you have a nickname, do you really need to change it?
Generally speaking, it depends on what you order on Amazon. Sometimes, Amazon drivers don’t require any signature to make a delivery. They just leave it at your door. This was pointed out by commenters who said: “You just leave the package at the door and never knock, so it’s okay.”
But if you make frequent purchases that require face-to-face interaction, it’s best to use your legal name, or at least one you’re sure you won’t forget.
