Jared McCain turned his trade frustrations into musical inspiration this week.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard recorded his first song, “Right Back,” in a live collaboration with popular streamer PlaqueBoyMax just days after his shocking departure from Philadelphia.
The 20-year-old rookie composed his first official song during an 18-minute session on PlaqueBoyMax’s Twitch stream. McCain confidently delivered bars over trap-influenced rhythms while thousands of viewers watched the creative process unfold in real time.
“I met a bad bitch on the sidelines/I’m just north of here,” McCain raps during the hook. “We warriors, won’t give you any more life/I got color on my nails, it’s my swag/They hate me, but I’m right back.”
The collaboration is a natural fit within PlaqueBoyMax’s ongoing series, where he transforms NBA players into recording artists.
Jaren Jackson Jr. recently wrote the song “Double Dribble” during a similar workout.
McCain displayed a true passion for the music-making process throughout the live broadcast. He worked closely with PlaqueBoyMax on lyrics and delivery while maintaining the signature confidence that made him a Philly fan favorite.
The Duke product’s musical debut follows his controversial trade from the Sixers to the Thunder earlier this month. Philadelphia sent McCain to Oklahoma City along with draft compensation in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick and three second-round picks.
“We better not hit Philly ’cause if we do, we’ll get clingy/Can’t believe they gave up on me/Cool, I gotta show ’em what happened,” he raps.
McCain’s departure from Philadelphia prompted widespread criticism from fans and analysts who considered him the team’s brightest young talent. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 6.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in his rookie season before a trade disrupted his development.
The Thunder have yet to comment on McCain’s musical activities since joining the team.
Oklahoma City acquired McCain as part of a long-term rebuilding strategy focused on developing young talent alongside established stars.
When Philadelphia selected McCain with the 16th overall pick in 2024, McCain signed a four-year rookie deal worth more than $4 million. His contract runs through the 2027-28 season, giving Oklahoma City several years to evaluate his basketball development.
