Kid ‘N Play’s Kid revealed that he received a heart transplant in 2025.
Christopher “Kid” Reid, a member of iconic rap duo Kid ‘N Play, appeared on Good Morning America on Thursday (February 5), where he opened up about his recent heart transplant and new outlook on life. In the video interview below, Reed reveals that he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure after a visit to the emergency room last July.
A few weeks later, while on medication, Reed’s condition worsened, prompting him to see a cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. After additional blood tests, doctors told Reed that his heart failure was starting to affect his other organs. He was immediately rushed to intensive care and told he needed a heart transplant.
Due to the severity of his condition, Reed was eventually placed on the emergency list for a heart transplant. “[He was] His cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Laura DiChiacchio, said:
Just nine days later, Reed received his heart.
Now in recovery, Reed is grateful for his new heart and looking forward to a healthier future. “I wish I was the same person, but a better version of myself,” he said. “Because man, this is the thing, this is the good life.”
Reed hopes that by sharing his story, he can inspire others, especially people of color, to make health a priority in their lives.
“A lot of people have heart disease because they don’t go to the doctor,” he said. “So I urge all my fans, and all of your loved ones – to check it out.”
Reed is currently writing a book about his heart transplant journey, aptly titled, “The Heart of the Matter.”
