Chicago drill rapper Aspen Kartier was arrested on Friday night (January 30) for animal cruelty. Brookhaven police booked the 19-year-old girl after her Twitch stream showed her allegedly beating a three-month-old Maltipoo puppy.
The whole thing was live-streamed. Viewers heard the puppy crying and saw Katir beating the puppy multiple times. She also grabbed it by the neck and hit it with what looked like a chair.
Police received numerous complaints about the video. Police searched her Town Avenue home and found the puppy, who appeared to be healthy.
But DeKalb County Animal Control took custody of the dog anyway.
Cartier’s real name was Aspen Easterling. She rose to prominence in Chicago’s drill music scene with songs like “I Do” and “LA PERCS.” Before the ban, her Twitch channel had thousands of followers.
The platform suspended her account for violating community guidelines. Twitch has not yet revealed how long the ban will last. They are conducting an internal investigation.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) quickly picked up the story. They posted footage of the abuse on social media and called for charges. Animal rights groups have been pushing for tougher penalties in such cases.
This whole situation reminds me of Caesar Emmanuel in Black Ink Crew.
In 2022, he was caught on camera hitting a dog with a folding chair. That video completely ruined his career.
VH1 fired Caesar immediately after the video went viral. Before the scandal broke, he was making $1 million a year from the show. The network severed all ties and dropped him from future seasons.
Caesar also faces criminal charges. South Fulton police arrested him on two counts of animal cruelty and one count of aggravated animal cruelty.
The backlash ruined everything for Caesar. He lost his television contracts, endorsement deals and most of his income. Fans were completely against him.
His tattoo parlor was hit by negative publicity and the show continued without him, with ratings remaining strong.
The situation at Cartier looks similar. She is young and building momentum in practicing music. But this arrest could bring disrepute to everything she has done. Khadir went from rising rapper to arrested suspect overnight. The internet never forgets these moments.
Police expect more charges to be laid as the investigation continues.
