Nicki Minaj wanted Don Lemon arrested for church protests, and now he’s done just that.
The feud between Nikki and Don came to a head last week when Nikki accused the former CNN reporter of participating in an anti-ICE protest at a church in St. Paul, Minnesota, on January 18.
“Don’t smoke lemons, this is disgusting,” she wrote on Twitter. “How dare you? I’m putting that thug in jail!!!! He would never do this to any other religion. Lock him up!!!!!”
Nikki called Don, who is openly gay, an asshole, and in response to the backlash, Nikki doubled down.
“I wrote this on purpose because I knew it was the only way to get those fools to post about this,” she wrote on Twitter. “They will all collectively ignore the despicable behavior Lemonheads displayed. I’m glad they’re angry. They’ll get angrier.”
The next day, in an interview with TMZ and on his own social media accounts, Don responded to Nikki, calling her a homophobic bigot who should be deported.
On Thursday night (January 29), Lemon and three others were detained by federal agents for participating in the above-mentioned protests. He was accused of conspiring and interfering with the First Amendment rights of believers. The arrests were made at the request of Attorney General Pam Bondi, who called the protest “an organized attack.”
On Friday (January 30), Katie Miller Podcast host Katie Miller released a clip from her new interview with Nicki, in which she asks the rap star about calls for Don to be jailed and his response.
“Asshole, stop it!” Nicky snapped.
Don Lemon’s attorney released a statement about his arrest on social media. They called the legal matter a violation of his First Amendment rights and said they planned to fight the case aggressively.
