Dameian Roberson was standing directly behind Zeethewizard when he pulled the trigger, killing the aspiring rapper, and the entire shooting was captured on security cameras.
The 24-year-old is no random foe or rival. That night, Robertson rolled with Master Ze’s entourage. He walked out of the Dallas Pink House with the rising rapper just after 3:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
He then shot his friend in the back of the head.
Police arrested Robertson this week on murder charges. An arrest warrant revealed surveillance video showing the fatal incident that led to the 25-year-old’s death.
Zeethewizard just finished performing at the grand opening of the Pink House in Dallas. But within minutes, what was originally a New Year’s party turned into a crime scene.
The rapper left the club around 3:32 a.m. with three members of his gang, one of whom was Robertson. They were immediately met by four other men at the entrance, sparking an argument that no one saw coming.
Both groups backed away from each other and drew their guns. The conflict escalated into an all-out shootout in the parking lot. Five people were shot that night, but only one died from his injuries.
Surveillance video shows Robertson standing directly behind Zeethewizard, holding a handgun and firing. The rapper fell to the ground as gunshots rang out around them. He had never seen anyone in his circle fire a gun.
Zeethewizard spent five days fighting for life at Parkland Hospital. He passed away on January 5, leaving behind a growing fan base and unfinished dreams. The Dallas music scene has lost one of its brightest rising stars to friendly fire.
Zeethewizard signed with Future Records and received national attention. As his profile grew, his influence extended far beyond North Texas. Two albums were released in the last year alone, showcasing his prolific output and dedication to his craft.
The warrant did not specify whether Robertson intentionally targeted Zeethewizard or accidentally shot Zeethewizard while aiming at the other person.
That distinction could determine the final charges and possible sentencing he faces.
Police have not revealed what sparked the initial confrontation between the two groups. The investigation remains active and detectives are piecing together the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
Robertson remains in the Dallas County Jail with a bond amount that has not yet been set. Court records do not indicate whether he has obtained legal representation for the murder charge.
