The ’90s trend returned at Donald Trump’s New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago, when Vanilla Ice took the stage with an unexpected performance that set social media abuzz.

The rapper performed his 1990 hit “Ice Ice Baby” at Trump’s annual black-tie gala at his Palm Beach resort.

But the performance took an even more surreal turn when a costumed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle joined him on stage to dance with the rapper.

Video clips shared on social media show Vanilla Ice performing an energetic rendition of his signature song, with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character dancing behind him. The crowd, which included prominent politicians, seemed to enjoy the nostalgic feel.

The most explosive moment came when Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller were caught on camera dancing enthusiastically to the performance. The video, shared on social media by Miller’s wife, Katie Miller, shows the two officers swaying and singing to classic hip-hop songs.

“Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem dancing to Ice Ice Baby is so hilarious!” one social media user commented, while others pointed out the irony of immigration officials dancing to a song by the artist famous in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze.

Trump himself was seen enjoying the performance, with witnesses saying he appeared to be having a great time during the night’s musical performance. The 79-year-old president was spotted doing what some called the “dad dance” with the crowd.

Vanilla Ice has been associated with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise since her memorable performance of “Ninja Rap” in the 1991 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The inclusion of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters in the Mar-a-Lago show seemed like a deliberate nod to that connection.

The show comes as Vanilla Ice continues to tour decades after his initial breakthrough. Despite years of criticism over the originality of his biggest hits, the rapper has maintained his place in pop culture history.

Social media reactions to the Mar-a-Lago performance were mixed, but the clips were shared thousands of times across different platforms, making them one of the most talked about moments of Trump’s New Year’s festivities.

The annual Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve party pushes MAGA’s obsession with rap music to 2026.
