Tory Lanez gave his first prison interview since being sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting death of Megan Thee Stallion. He insists he was wrongly convicted and wants someone in the system to look at the evidence and “ask if this is fair.”
Tory Lanez spoke to NBC News on Thursday (December 18) about his plans to appeal following his conviction in the 2020 shooting. He is seeking release from prison. The rapper is currently incarcerated at the California Men’s Prison in San Luis Obispo, California, having served three years of his 10-year sentence.
“I’m really, really misunderstood in the public eye because I’m just a monster,” Tory said. “I feel like I’m being promoted as a typical child because black women are not protected, which is totally different from who I am. And I’ve never really had the opportunity to express that.”
The Canadian claims he has no record of violence against women. “I have never been violent towards a woman,” he insists. “I would never hit a woman, let alone shoot a woman.”
Tory has maintained his innocence since the 2020 shooting and his trial on the charges in 2022. After being found guilty of assault with a semi-automatic weapon, personal use of a firearm and carrying an unregistered firearm in a vehicle, Tory felt he had been wrongly convicted.
“I believe not only was I wrongly convicted, but I think the amount of new evidence that has come out since that trial is overwhelming,” he insisted.
When asked what he would like to say to Megan Thee Stallion now, Tori revealed that he would like to have time to speak with her in person rather than through an interview.
“I don’t think I would say anything directly to her,” Tori added. “I wish that moment could have happened in person. We’ve both been through a lot. There’s this connotation, like I have the same hatred for her, but I don’t. I’m really over it. I’m healing in my life. I’m taking responsibility for the things I did wrong. When I talk about my case, I don’t want people to think I’m coming for her, because that’s not the case. I’m just looking for someone to look at my case in the system and look at the evidence and ask if that’s fair.”
Tory Lanez’s team plans to file multiple appeals next week.
