VP JD Vance’s surprise endorsement of Nicki Minaj over Cardi B could reignite one of hip-hop’s most vicious feuds while potentially bolstering Minaj’s growing political clout.

When Vance released “Nicki>Cardi” on X, he got into one of rap’s messiest controversies.

The tweet came after Nicki Minaj wrote “Vance>rant” in a now-deleted post that caught the vice president’s attention.

Vance’s tweet received 35,600 likes and more than 2,500 replies within hours. Hip-hop fans immediately began picking sides, with many questioning why the vice president was opining on the rap beef.

“So you think you’re a hangnail? Is that official?” one user sneered, while another said: “Vance/Minaj 2028.”

His public connected him with an artist who had just given a controversial speech at the United Nations while working with President Trump’s administration.

It also puts him in stark contrast to Cardi B, one of Trump’s most outspoken celebrity critics. Mina’s recent political moves make Vance’s endorsement even more important.

Last month, she addressed the United Nations on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria while praising Trump’s policies. In her speech, she thanked the president and announced that she was working with U.N. Ambassador Mike Walz on the issue.

“Today, faith is under attack,” Nicki Minaj told the United Nations General Assembly. The appearance marked her full embrace of the Trump administration after years of political fence-sitting.

Cardi B has yet to respond to Vance’s selection. But she has made her opposition to Trump clear through multiple campaign events and social media posts.

Three months ago, when Cardi released her album Am I Drama? ”, the feud between Minaj and Cardi erupted again. No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Nicki Minaj fired back, deleting a tweet that read “$4.99” – mocking the album’s promotional price.

She didn’t stop there. In a series of since-deleted posts, Minaj called Cardi a “dangerous Barney” and shared photos of her rival as a purple dinosaur. She also made a personal attack on Cardi’s life and mockingly referenced her song “Magnet.”

Cardi fired back, calling Nicki Minaj a “boring asshole” and defending her album sales. The social media war raged on for several days in September, with both artists later deleting some of their more offensive posts.

The feud dates back to 2017 but came to a head in 2018 when Cardi threw a shoe at Minaj and the two nearly got into a fight at a New York Fashion Week party.
