Diddy slammed Netflix’s Sean Combs: The Reckoning documentary just days ahead of its release, calling it a “shameful hit piece” and accusing the platform of using stolen footage and giving influence to longtime rival 50 Cent. Netflix fired back, denying all accusations.

The four-part series, which premieres on Tuesday (December 2), delves into the sexual misconduct allegations against Diddy since late 2023, including previously unseen footage of the hip-hop mogul and his entourage.

Diddy is currently serving a four-year sentence on prostitution-related charges and has not been found guilty of sex trafficking or racketeering conspiracy, both of which she was acquitted of.

Diddy’s camp released a scathing statement ahead of the docuseries’ premiere, claiming that Netflix “relyed on stolen footage that was never authorized for release” and that “Netflix’s misappropriation” of videos he has collected since he was 19 is “fundamentally unfair and illegal.”

His team also criticized Jackson’s involvement, calling him a “long-time adversary with a personal vendetta.”

Netflix quickly responded to the accusations, telling Variety that they were baseless.

“This project is not related to any past conversations between Sean Combs and Netflix,” the spokesperson said. “The footage of Combs’ indictment and arrest was obtained legally. This is not a hit piece and it is not an act of revenge. Curtis Jackson is an executive producer but has no creative control. No one was paid to participate.”

Director Alexandria Stapleton, who is overseeing the project, also defended the integrity of the production.

“We went to great lengths to keep the identity of the filmmakers secret,” she told Netflix’s Tudum. “One of the things about Sean Combs is that he’s always filming himself, and that’s been his obsession for decades.”
