Rihanna marked Barbados’ 59th Independence Day and fourth year as a republic by posting a personal and deeply personal tribute on Instagram, celebrating her home country’s political progress and family roots.
The Barbados-born music icon and entrepreneur posted a series of photos on Sunday showcasing her connection to the island, including scenic shots of beaches and local culture, as well as nostalgic shots of her holding hands by a pool with her two sons while pregnant.
“Congratulations to my motherland, Barbados, on its 59th anniversary of independence and its 4th year as a republic!” she wrote. “Today also marks the inauguration of our second President, the Honorable Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, who, along with our esteemed Prime Minister Mia Mottley, will continue to lead Barbados with distinction!!”

Rihanna, 37, has long used her platform to promote her country, which officially became a republic on November 30, 2021, severing ties with the British monarchy.
The final photo in her post is a heartwarming family moment. The “Umbrella” singer, who shares sons RZA, 3, Riot, 2, and daughter Rocki with A$AP Rocky, also included a photo of her pregnancy with Rocki, who was born on September 13.
She ended her post with a bold declaration: “Barbados I love you!!! #Bajan2DeBone.”
