Ray J spent Thanksgiving in jail after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at Princess Love during an on-air argument at their Los Angeles home, a confrontation that ended with the singer posting $50,000 bail and walking out of jail on Thursday afternoon.
The 44-year-old singer and businessman was seen leaving the Los Angeles County Jail wearing all black and made no comment after answering the call, avoiding eye contact with reporters.
His manager told photographers he rushed over after receiving a call from Ray J in jail, saying he “came right over and got him out.”
The arrest stems from an explosive domestic dispute that Ray J live-streamed on social media. A tense family argument quickly escalates when Ray J appears on camera to load a gun.
Princess Love later claimed that he pointed the weapon at her and her cousin’s husband when she tried to leave the home with their children.
“I would never put my children at risk,” she said. “That includes putting them with someone brandishing a gun.”
Within hours of his release, Princess Love posted a video on Instagram with the caption “Enough is Enough,” in which she accused her ex-husband of abuse and said she had been raising their two children, Melody and Epik, without his help.
“You’re not just drunk,” she said, urging him to seek treatment and claiming their children once found him “naked in bed with another woman.”
The situation reached a boiling point when an off-camera voice (believed to be her cousin’s husband) confronted Ray J. The singer allegedly responded: “I’m going to shoot you.”
Ray J briefly addressed the incident in a now-deleted social media post, claiming he felt threatened when his princess-loving cousin’s husband entered his room to pick up their children. He wrote that he had “a significant problem” with the man’s presence and believed he was “defending his space.”
The couple’s relationship has long been rocky. They got married in 2016 and Princess Love filed for divorce in 2020. Since then, they’ve struggled to co-parent, often making headlines for their public feuds and reconciliations.
Now, Ray J faces a charge of felony criminal threatening, which would have serious legal consequences if convicted. His next court hearing is scheduled for December 19.
The incident adds to a growing list of domestic violence cases in the hip-hop community, but the public scrutiny was amplified by the fact that the incident was staged live in front of thousands of people, allegedly in front of children.
