Drake has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit over his music video for his song “What Did I Miss?”
On Wednesday (November 12), photographer Gabriele Galimberti sued Drizzy in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The lawsuit accuses OVO leaders of “willful, brazen and widespread unlawful infringement.” Galimberti accused Drake of violating a photo from his portrait series “Ameri Guns,” which shows a family in a pool surrounded by various guns.
Drake’s “What Did I Miss?” “The music video features a similar scene, showing the Canadian rap star standing by a pool surrounded by several guns while singing the song’s lyrics.
“Without the plaintiff’s consent and without his knowledge, the defendants violated his rights by creating an entire music video scene in the infringing video that contained an unauthorized copy of the original work,” the filing reads. “The defendants’ conduct caused substantial harm to the plaintiff and plaintiff, thereby severely damaging the value of all of the plaintiff’s other works, as well as the value of his photographic licenses in the relevant market.”
Drake released the music video for “What Did I Miss?” on July 6 as part of his Iceman YouTube series. The song is expected to be a single from his upcoming Iceman album.
Galimberti asked for a jury trial and sought unspecified damages.
