Snoop Dogg has pulled the plug on NBC’s highly anticipated New Year’s Eve special, putting the Miami broadcast on hold to prioritize hosting duties for the 2026 Olympics.
The West Coast hip-hop legend will host a two-hour celebration on December 31, promising “an evening filled with unforgettable music, iconic performances and surprising artist collaborations.”
But the network has officially canceled the event, shifting its focus to the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy.
“Sometimes the calendar gets in the way of celebrations, which is why my NBC family and I have decided this winter is the time for all of us to focus on the Olympics,” Snoop said in a statement to Deadline. “But don’t worry, we’ll have a bigger and better party together later in 2026. It’s awesome.”
NBCUniversal previously confirmed in September that Snoop Dogg, who rose to prominence during the Summer Olympics in Paris, would return for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
His role as a reporter brought a light-hearted, humorous twist to the network’s coverage, winning praise from viewers and media outlets including NBC News.
In addition to his Olympic duties, Snoop is returning as a coach for the second run of NBC’s “The Voice,” continuing to appear on the network despite New Year’s Eve plans being canceled.
NBC has not yet announced what programming will replace the vacated time slot on Dec. 31. In the meantime, viewers can still watch ABC’s long-running “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest” or CBS’s “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville Bash.”
Snoop Dogg’s next confirmed appearance on NBC is related to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
