Trae Young brought his NBA drive and Atlanta hip-hop roots to late-night television on Oct. 28, with an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that highlighted his championship goals and personal connection with Quavo.

Known for his court vision and long-range shooting, the Atlanta Hawks point guard also showcased his growing connection to the music and culture of the city he now calls home.

The two-time All-Star opened up about his friendship with the former Migos rapper, telling Fallon, “He welcomed me to Atlanta from day one. He’s like a big brother.”

Their relationship recently took center stage in Billboard’s “Switching Stages” feature, in which the two swapped careers — Young came to the studio while Quavo tested his basketball skills.

“We were able to change lives, and I got into his world and he got into mine a little bit. So, going to the studio with him, I got to see how he wrote songs,” Young said.

Their connection goes deeper than a single collaboration. Quavo’s shoutout on the 2018 Migos song “Ice Tray” helped propel Young’s “Ice Trae” nickname into the mainstream, further connecting the NBA star to Atlanta’s hip-hop community.

When the conversation turned to basketball, Young didn’t hesitate to name his primary goal.

“Obviously, I want to win a championship,” he said. While he’s proud of his individual numbers, he led the league in assists last season with 11.6 per game.

Young made it clear that the team’s success is all that matters.

Despite his impressive numbers, the Hawks went 40-42 last season and missed the playoffs. This is head coach Quin Snyder’s first full season, and the team is still trying to find its rhythm.

Off the court, Young’s involvement in music continued to grow.

In October, he released “Where I Stay,” a collaboration between Quavo and 2 Chainz, a tribute to Atlanta that Quavo performed at the Eagles’ home opener.
