Suge Knight stirred up old industry drama and revisited his admiration for Eve during a recent interview with The Art of Conversation, where he danced around dating rumors and verbally attacked Dr. Dre.
Knight has not confirmed a relationship with the Grammy-winning rapper, but has made it clear that she still holds a special place in his memory.
“I still love Eve today. I love gangsters. I love gangsters who fight for money, for life, for what they want,” he said.
This conversation is inspired by Eve’s memoir Who’s That Girl? “,” in which she allegedly stated in her memoir that she dated Knight in retaliation for Dr. Dre’s removal from Aftermath Records.
Knight did not respond directly to the claim, but referred to Eve as a “home girl,” speaking with obvious admiration.
“All Eve had to do was nod and I would break Andre’s jaw,” Knight said of her feud with Dre.
Eve impressed Dre during an impromptu audition in Philadelphia and signed with Aftermath at just 17 years old. He flew her to Los Angeles in the early days of the label and added her to his roster. However, this partnership did not last long.
According to Eve, Dre was frustrated by her youthful impatience and constant requests for recordings. She admitted that she showed up at his studio multiple times uninvited, which eventually led to her firing.
Knight said Eve’s early struggles were not due to her talent but to industry politics.
“Eve is a survivor. I think Eve’s platform and Interscope are smaller than hers. And she’s so ahead of the game and her lyrics that it can cause jealousy when she knows what she wants to do. That’s probably what happened,” he said.
Knight went on to compare Eve to Cardi B, calling them “two of the same badass people.” [b######] ” and added, “Cardi B is still the best ever. “
