The murder of Lil Durk’s brother, Dontay “DThang” Banks Jr., remains a cold case after he was shot to death more than four years ago.
On June 6, 2021, DThang was shot and killed outside the O Club in Harvey, Illinois. Few details about the incident have been released. There are reports that DThang may be behind bars in the crossfire. The Harvey Police Department declined to provide a copy of the police report, citing an ongoing investigation, Chicago Magazine reported.

While police have provided no official update, in December, the Chicago Tribune reported on an unsealed federal indictment linking Durk to the murder of a man named Stephon Mack. Stephon Mack was shot and killed on January 27, 2022, after leaving the Youth Peace Center in Chicago. Authorities believe Mack, a leader of the Smashville faction of the Gangster Disciples, may be responsible for DThang’s death.
According to court records obtained by Chicago Magazine, a confidential informant told the FBI that Dontay was shot to death by members of Dump Street, the GD faction affiliated with the gang’s Smashville clique.
However, Durk is currently preparing to stand trial in an unrelated murder-for-hire case, but has not yet been charged with Mack’s murder. DThang’s death comes six months after Lil Durk artist King Von was shot and killed in Atlanta in November 2020.
